Good job local leaders

If anyone thinks town councillors and mayors/reeves are overpaid I beg to differ.
On Saturday I attended the annual Rainy River District Municipal Association's annual meeting in Rainy River.
There were more than 50 councillors and mayors/reeves in attendance and all of them were there with bettering the Rainy River District in mind.
Some of the issues were financial, some were health or socially related, and some were economic.
Listening to them and their guest speakers one would think our leaders do not get a moment's rest.
Within their own communities they have countless meetings.
Then many of them belong to district organizations, for which there are more meetings and travel involved.
Then there are these regional groups like RRDMA where they meet to send their constituents' wishes to an even higher level, again requiring some leaders like our Mayor Deb Ewald and Morley's Reeve Gary Gamsby to go to more meetings (NOMA).
For the meager few hundred dollars a councillor gets per month in Rainy River, one wonders why they would do it. If they were paid by the hour for the time they put in councillor's fees would not cover the bill.
I think the reason why they do it is because they love their communities and this area. They all deserve a pat on the back for working so hard.
