Why does frost heave occur in gardens?

By Melanie Mathieson Gardening Guru Frost heave happens when a soil, such as a garden soil is subjected to on going freezing and thawing temperatures. The pressure created from alternating freezing and thawing lifts the soil and creates pockets within the soil. If this occurs repeatedly the soil will heave upwards, out of the ground. The result leaves humps of soil and possibly plants laying on the soil surface, with exposed roots. This obviously can cause further damage to both the plants and the soil.

OLWS holds Lenten Days

Back at the school the students and staff were treated to a delicious Lenten Lunch of soup, buns and a fruit cup. Kenneth Olson, 66

Sadly the family announces the sudden passing of Kenneth Olson, 66 of Bergland, ON on Friday March 25, 2016 at the Rainy River Health Centre.

Bill Olson passed peacefully at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Thunder Bay with family at his side.
