Working hard on First Nations issues

In addition to working hard to bring some transparency and accountability to the Harper Government over their massive 400-plus page budget bill that is being rammed quickly through parliament I also spent time working on several issues related to First Nations communities in Canada this past week.

The lake came alive

The lake came alive this Victoria Day weekend. Since our first weekend at the cabin, almost five weeks ago, hardly a light has been seen at night on the lake. This weekend several lights lit the windows of cabins that we can see.

Yvonne Marie Lange, 79

Peacefully on Monday, January 16, 2012 at the Atikokan General Hospital, Yvonne M. Lange of Atikokan, Ont passed away at the age of 79.

Denis Nault, 73

On Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at the Thunder Bay Regional Hospital, Denis Nault of Rainy River, Ontario passed away with his family by his side.

Iris Marquis, 84

Iris was born in Minahico, Ontario in 1927. She was the youngest of eleven children, the last surviving member of the Gaudry family. Married to Phillip James Marquis, December 24, 1947, and before she was thirty years old became the mother of five children, Perry, Don, Dave, Paul, and Melanie, all surviving. During the 60s, Iris raised her family until they were either working on the Canadian National Railway or studying at college or university. As the youngest son, Paul studied English literature, while Melanie studied nursing. During the 70s, 80s, and 90s, Iris worked at Arctic Cat
