The spectacular colours of fall

In the newspaper business we have always told our customers that colour sells. Adding just a single colour to an ad increased the potential that it would be read by an increase of 50%. Putting something into the full rainbow of colours, almost every reader of a newspaper would be attracted to the advertisement.
Similarly the difference between a black and white photograph and a photograph in full colour is astronomical in increased attention.
I was reminded of this on my recent vacation across Ontario and the New England States.

Visual Arts exhibit at Baudette Depot

This week the Depot Preservation Alliance would like to share with you some information regarding our visual artists from Lake of the Woods Art Guild who will be presenting an exhibit of all new works created especially for the Baudette Depot Grand Re-Opening and some information on Scott Murphy who has created a fabulous “cultural heritage mural” on one wall of the former “fine ladies’ waiting room” in the Depot. An “artists’ statements” brochure will be available at the weekend event. Here, we will just summarize a bit about each participant.

National Infection Control Week

TORONTO, Oct. 17, 2011 /CNW/ - In light of recent outbreaks in Ontario’s hospitals and communities, now is the time to remind everyone about the role each person can play in the continued practice of good infection prevention and control measures in health care settings. Whether you work in a health care setting, are a resident or patient, or a visitor, each of us can prevent the spread of germs that can lead to illness.

Ontario Library Week: Oct 16-22

October 16 to 22, 2011 is Ontario Public Library Week, an opportunity to celebrate public libraries, their staff and their patrons. This year’s theme, Your Library, A Place Unbound suggests that, as part of a changing world, libraries are expanding their resources as they connect people to information and reading. Innovations such as digital and downloadable books, music, movies, Internet access, electronic databases, eReaders, gaming, and the utilization of social media such as Facebook and Twitter appeal to a new generation of library users!
