Back it up with actions Premier Wynne

This past week MPPs returned to the legislature after the four month long lockout imposed by Dalton McGuinty. On our first day back, Ontario’s new premier, Kathleen Wynne, released her Speech from the Throne, outlining her goals for the upcoming session.
My initial reaction was surprise, followed by frustration. While it is common for throne speeches to lack details about the new programs or ideas the government is championing, this particular speech lacked clear goals that the new Premier hoped to accomplish.

Two Brilliant Warblers

Most of the warblers, of which there are a lot around here, are usually dressed up in shades of green or yellow, with a bit of black or brown thrown in sometimes.

We owe labour unions a great deal

Lately labour and trade unions have been portrayed in a negative light by conservative media and business interests. Doing so may serve the interests of those casting the stones but the reality is that we owe unions our thanks for improving the economic and social well-being of working Canadians over the decades that they have been in existence.

Would privatizaton be a good thing?

Killing the goose that laid the “Golden Egg” is among the most famous of Aesop’s Fairy tales. It is the story of a cottager and wife who had a goose that every day laid a golden egg. The couple believed that the goose contained a huge lump of gold and they killed the goose to grab the gold, only to find out that the goose was totally common. In killing the goose they lost their wealth generator and were deprived of all the good things that the goose could provide for them in the future.

Revenue Canada jumped the gun

A few weeks ago I received a letter from Revenue Canada.

Funeral Notice: Hilda Mykytyn

Peacefully on Sunday February 17, 2013 at the Rainy River Hospital, Hilda Mykytyn passed away at the age of 79. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday February 26, 2013 at 11 a.m. from the Rainy River Evangelical Covenant Church. Complete funeral announcement to follow.

Richard Gabriel, 82

Passed away on Wednesday, February 6th, 2013 in his 83rd year. He will be rejoining his wife, Florence who predeceased him in January 2011.

Vivian Joyce Hartnell, 88

It is with great sadness that the family of Vivian Joyce Hartnell announces her passing. Surrounded by her loving family, Vivian passed away peacefully early Saturday morning, February 9th, 2013 in the Rainy River Hospital. She was 88 years old.
Vivian was born March 13, 1924 to Hugo and Daisy Hanson in their home in Atwood Township. She was the second oldest of six children.
