Armed robbery occurs in Kenora

(Kenora, ON.) On 14 Sept. at 1:00 AM OPP responded to a call of an armed robbery that occurred on Lakeview Drive in Kenora. Suspects entered a local restaurant gaining access to the office. They were able to get away with an undisclosed amount of cash prior to police being called. Members of Kenora detachment are being assisted by the detachment Criminal Investigations and street crimes unit.

Even though the main sponsor of the annual Kids' RRWT, Village Corner, recently burned down, they are still going to make the event happen.

Baudette plans to commemorate 1910 fire

October 7, 2010 marks the 100th anniversary of the Great Forest Fire of 1910 which raged across a vast area of Northern Minnesota. The fire destroyed hundreds of thousands of acres of forest land, leveled the town of Baudette and its sister village of Spooner (now East Baudette), and wiped out the communities of Pitt, Graceton and Cedar Spur. Approximately 40 people died and thousands were left homeless with winter fast approaching.

In the tradition of good border town rivalries, the RRWT committee has introduced a new Canada versus the United States prize this year!

Meetings need to be more open

It is often noted that a free and open press ensures that the government represents its people. The press is free to tell the truth about the government and its citizens hold the government accountable.
This applies to any level of government and the committees of the government.
However, governments have the right to distinguish which materials are public or protected from disclosure to the public based on classification of information.

I will vote to abolish the gun registry

Over the last several weeks my offices throughout the riding and in Ottawa have fielded many calls from constituents on the issue of the Long Gun Registry and Bill C-391. These calls and recent national and local media coverage on the issue have compelled me to issue this statement today.
The issues of firearms control, public safety, and Bill C-391 have proven to be contentious ones. I have been saddened and disappointed by the behaviour and antics of individuals and groups on both sides of the debate in recent weeks.

Our fish are a missed opportunity
