An invitation to change

As I sit here writing this, I look out and see a dull, dreary, end of winter, grey day.
Showing underneath the melting snow the threat of mud looms large. Cold, wet, sloppy mud. Mud that will soon find its way, tracked by sneakers and boots, into the house, into the car; trapped on the bottom of jeans and pets’ paws.

This is one of those smallducks which make up a good part of the duck hunter’s bag, along with the Scaups, Redheads and so on. They are quite widespread and, I am told, not too hard to shoot.

Make education more affordable for hard working families

Toronto - NDP Leader Howard Hampton today called on the McGuinty government to make education more affordable for Ontario’s hard-working families.
“Today’s families work hard and pay their taxes to make sure their children get a first-class public education. They shouldn’t have to sell chocolate bars, hold raffles or conduct skipping rope fund-raisers to make sure their children get the education they need,” Hampton told the annual general meeting of the Ontario English Catholic Teachers Association.

Put your egos asside

Dear Editor,
I was thinking about all the comments made the past few weeks involving the present and past mayor of your fine community and also some of the responses by the local community. I do not have the knowledge or the information to take sides in this argument that has been at the center of this dispute, but would like to offer my opinion. For what it is worth

To some consumers, these products are just some of the items on their regular shopping lists. To retailers, these items represent something much bigger – something that has a direct impact on their long-term viability, their ability to grow and the safety of their customers and employees.

As I sit here and find my body clock adjusting to the earlier switch to Daylight Saving Time Monday morning, I find myself saying, “The jet lag is worth it.”
I am ready for spring and summer and Saturday afternoon affirmed that for me.

Council renews insurance at a cost of $56,631

Rainy River Town Council met Monday evening with only two councillors present.
Mayor Deb Ewald was joined by Councillors Marilyn McAlister and Brent Anderson, which is a quorum under the new structure of four councillors and a mayor. Councillor Gerry Marchuk is recovering from surgery and Gord Armstrong is away on vacation.
