The Lake of the Woods Township Council held a Public Meeting on March 6 at Bergland to consider the engineer’s report on the Stintzi drain project 2006.
Present were Mayor Val Pizey, Councillors N. Gate, T. Sepers, C. Fadden, and J. Moen, Clerk-Treasurer P. Giles, and Roads Supt. E. Pearson. Visitors were M. Stintzi and representatives from K. Smart Engineering, who gave the report on the Stintzi Drain. There was little discussion on the report and less questions. There was some talk regarding the spring work and tenders.

Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources forest fire managers are cautioning people to make sure their outdoor fires are extinguished properly. Underlying drought conditions may allow fires to burn into organic material below the snow and flare into fires when warmer spring weather arrives.

In a move to really expand the Youth Action Alliance in its second year a region wide release of a recruiting video was held last Wednesday.
Local Peer Leaders for YAA in Rainy River as well as local dignitaries sat in on a video conference at the Rainy River Hospital while members of YAAs in 11 other Northwestern Ontario communities did the same thing in their towns.

The Rainy River Rendezvous is a day of adventure at the Lake of the Woods School. Through the course of the day kids will work on projects, enjoy crafts, games and entertainment, AND taste lots of great food from our past!

There are literally hundreds of varieties of cabbage. The most popular in Canada are green cabbage and savoy varieties. As with broccoli, cabbage is a cruciferous vegetable and may reduce the risk of some forms of cancer including colorectal cancers. Cabbage is also high in beta-carotene, vitamin C and fibre.

The halls have been empty as students in grade 9 and 10 traveled to Moose Lake for the annual winter camping trip and the ski trip to Giants Ridge in Biwabik for all grades took place this past Wednesday. This week is March Break and once school is back in session the final drive to the end of the year will be under way.
