Holiday treat!

The Borderland Orchestra, which hails from Williams, Mn in the west to the far side of Fort Frances, came together at Rainy River High School Sunday afternoon. There was a packed house and it was a free will donation to get in. All proceeds went to the RRHS Chem-free Grad Party.

Korean War Veteran, Harry Arnould, escorted by Legion Sgt. At Arms Ron Mondor, lay a wreath at the Rainy River Cenotaph as part of Remebrance Day services.

Legion tribute

RRHS students latest "We Care Initiative" involved honouring the local Legion and all it represents. WCI students and staff members created a beautiful stained glass inlay on a giant stepping stone to honour the Legion. Weather permitting it will be installed at the court yard of RRHS this fall. Monday morning Legion President Walter Wagner was shown the tribute. Fr. l. to r., Halina Chjoko-Bolec, John LaPlante, Katherine Williams, Pres. Walter Wager, Sheila Hansen, Amy Dyck, Gregg Armistead and Morgan McDermid. It took more than a week of volunteer time to complete.

Possible bridge designs

Last week public meetings were held in Rainy River and Baudette to show people concepts relating to the replacement of the international bridge in 2018. After reviewing many many many possible bridge designs, the public was shown a short list of five possible designs that would work here.

Rusnak wins Thunder Bay-Rainy River seat

Liberal Don Rusnak won the Thunder Bay-Rainy River federal riding with 18,523 votes Monday.

Red alert

Staff and students at Rainy River High School wore red last Monday to honour missing and murdered Aboriginal women as part of National Dress Red Day. To date there are over 1,200 Aboriginal women/girls missing or murdered in Canada.

Rejuvenation!

All the trees along Main Street had to be removed this spring due to the reconstruction of the street. But on Saturday, thanks to a grant from CNR and partners Tree Canada/Communities in Bloom, the first of many new trees was planted in front of Rainy River Drugs.
