Letters to The Editor

Sick of narrow mindedness

Dear Editor,
I was saddened and appalled to read a letter in the February 6th edition of the Record from the ex-mayor of Rainy River. Is this yet another example of the Good Ole Boys Club?
I applaud Mayor Ewald for remaining friends with someone who has been a friend for a number of years. I don’t see any conflict of interest on her part.

Search out the facts citizens

Dear Editor:
This letter is in response to the citizens of Rainy River who have voiced their opinion on my Feb. 6, 2007, Letter to the Editor and also to others that may have formed an opinion but for their own reasons have chosen to remain silent.

Councillor responds to last week’s letters

Dear Editor,
The purpose of letters to the editor is to spark debate, express one’s opinion, and possibly inform the public about a matter which the community is unaware, or present to the public a subject the press has failed or neglected to report. Ex-Mayor Armstrong had every right to express his opinions. If some citizens didn’t find his remarks appropriate, they have the right to respond. They are also entitled to make their opinion public. I now wish to use my right to express my opinion on their remarks.

Let’s give Mayor Ewald a chance

Dear Editor,
Re: Glen Armstrong’s Letter to the Editor in The Record of February 6, 2007.
What did Mr. Armstrong do as mayor?
Sweep your own deck, before you condemn other!!
Lets give Debbie Ewald a chance!

Calling for resignation is idiotic

Dear Editor,
I must admit I was really taken aback by Glen Armstrong’s letter in last week’s paper about the Mayor’s vacation.
Firstly, what business do any of us have criticizing anyone going on vacation and who they happen to meet while there?

A clarification

Dear Editor,
Just a bit of clarification regarding the caption on the photo of $5000 cheque given by Carl Peters to Heidi Ivall from the Conrad Berglund family. The money was a gift from Conrad Berglund himself, not the family. Conrad had stated in his will that all proceeds from his estate with the exception of the 4 parcels of land and buildings that he had owned should be given to charities in the Rainy River District. He was a private man, but should be given the credit due in this generous bequest as well as any future bequests.

Letter is shameful

Dear Editor,
It was with considerable surprise and dismay that I read Mr. Armstrong’s letter to the Editor on February 6, 2007.
To my knowledge neither the previous Town Administration nor the Rainy River Record have published or alerted our community about a lawsuit that could result in grave financial circumstances for the town. It would appear that the administration under Mr. Armstrong’s watch chose to keep this matter very quiet. I still do not know why the town employee was let go.

Mayor responds to vacation questions

To the citizens of Rainy River;
I ran for the position of Mayor because I wanted to see this town move forward. I have, and continue to have, the towns best interest at heart for any decisions I make. I have not and would not jeopardize the well being of this community by inappropriate discussions or any other actions.

Dog bylaw means nothing

Dear Editor,
I am using your paper to inform the people of Rainy River that there is a typographical error in the insert that we received with the sewer and water bill.
The insert is titled Warning Dog Owners. The second paragraph reads as follows ”Dog owners that fail to comply fully with this By-law will risk the consequences of your pet being dealt with according to the said By-law.” It should be corrected to read: Dog owners that fail to comply fully with this By-law will NOT risk the consequences of your pet being dealt with according to the said By-law.

Questions about Mayor’s vacation

Dear Editor,
As a taxpayer in this community and as a former Mayor and Councilor, I have serious concern of the recent political conduct of our current Mayor!
I question if our Mayor should be vacationing and associating with a party that has her taxpayers before the courts with a law suit that could have grave financial consequences on our community. I question if the Mayor’s conduct is appropriate. I question where the loyalty of our Mayor rests; with the town or the other party.
