Stiff competition

Rainy River High School Junior Girls Basketball Team competed at a tournament in Fort Frances over the weekend. They finished fifth by defeating the Kenora Beaver Brae Broncos 26-25. Many of the schools at the tournament were much larger than RRHS. Seen here shooting for RRHS is Madison Brown.

Investing in farm infrastructure

Maria Vandenbrand looks on as Jessi Tait begins a row of tile drainage in the Farm Drainage Plow, which uses XYZ GPS to precisely lay the tile. The tiling was done for Brielmann Agricuture Ltd. 1,300 acres were done this summer for the Brielmanns who hope to better utilize the land for cash crops. See feature story on page six....

Top runners!

Riverview School sewed up the top spots for grade 8 runners at the recent Cross Country Meet at Crossroads School in Devlin. Jackson Arpin, left, and Lara Wood, finished first with times of 13:12 and 11:55.

Jason and Oliver Gibbins hoisted the RRWT championship trophy for an unprecedented fifth time on Sunday! They dedicated their win to their late cousin and best friend John Gibbins.

Burning bush

Friday night local fire departments were called to a fire north of Rainy River on Jenkins Drive. They observed the situation as seen here. The person doing the burning did have a permit.

Bullish prices

Over 800 head of cattle, including this bull, were sold at the Stratton Sales Barn on Saturday. Prices were strong, reaching as high as $3.00 per pound! To see all this week's photos in colour click here.
