A bloodsucker on your leg can give you the willies! But let's not be too hasty in our criticism of this lowly creature.

It is amazing how much a week can change the look of a community. Two weeks prior to the opening of the Calgary Stampede, the city, the Stampede grounds were awash in water and mud. Yet through the perseverance of the city, its people and its friends, the community is now pulling off the “The Worlds Greatest outdoor Show”.

In the spring of 2011 a Toronto Star investigation uncovered the Ontario Government’s past use of Agent Orange - a herbicide associated with potential long-term health problems.

Over the weekend my fiancee and I were living the dream! For the first time in our 6.5 years together we had a weekend with no kids and no dogs!

The Rainy River Library is welcoming a world-famous traveller to town!

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Lena Tesarsky announce her passing on June 24, 2013, peacefully at the Rainy River Health Centre, with her loving family at her side, just six days before her 98th birthday.

Lena was born in Stuartburn, Manitoba, on June 30, 1915, to Ukrainian immigrant farming parents, and was the last surviving member of a family of 13. In 1942 she married Mike Tesarsky, and they eventually settled in Rainy River.

Last week’s column focused on recapping my work in parliament and the motions and bills that I tabled during the spring sitting of parliament. As we enter the second week of the summer it is worth recapping what events transpired on the government side of the House of Commons as well. Three events really dominated the spring session of parliament; the tabling of the latest Auditor General’s report, the tabling and passage of another federal budget, and the ongoing and intensifying Senate scandal.
