Here is a bird which you have probably never seen, but might very well have heard. The Whip-poor-will is known much more by its call, than by how it looks.

Perhaps I can shed a little light on the bird situation in answer to Rob’s queries about the “bird issue.”

Dear Mr Editor

I have been on holidays for the past two weeks. During the first week, I was preoccupied with fishing. Traditionally my wife and I have taken the last week of July and relaxed at the cabin. This year was no different.
Normally, it is one of the hottest weeks of the year. As everyone can verify, this past week was one of the coldest in history. On Sunday, we checked the weather network to pack appropriate clothing. The network promised some warm weather with a bit of clouds and a shower and an even more occasional thunder shower over the week.

Now I know why stores have their fall fashions out on display in late June. They have insider information!!!

So far, 2009 has been a busy year for the Women’s Institutes in the Rainy River District and the months ahead will be even more so.

The Highway Safety Education Committee (HSEC) of Northwestern Ontario wants drivers to JUST DRIVE. Distracted driving is increasingly the cause of collisions on our highways. Recent studies show that cell phone use and text messaging are as dangerous as impaired driving.
The Insurance Bureau of Canada reports that drivers on cell phones – hand-held or hands-free are four times more likely to crash and numerous studies estimate that 75% of collisions can be attributed to driver distraction.
