A tribute to Auntie Linda

Editor’s Note: My Aunt Linda passed away August 2nd. Here is the tribute I gave at her funeral.
Linda was an amazing person.
She was a loving wife, a mother, a grandma, a friend, a volunteer and she was short.

War vet revisits Korea, 50+ years later

Former Rainy River resident Leonard Proteau recently presented the Rainy River Legion with two flags from South Korea to display.
Proteau, a Korean War Veteran, received the flags from children while visiting that country for a week in April as part of a contingent sent there by the Canadian government. “They do this regularly and I decided to apply to go,” said Proteau. He was part of a group of veterans from Canada, Australia, England and New Zealand.

There was plenty of “Fun” for everyone at the Fourth Annual Bergland Family Fun Day this past Sunday.
The day began with kids activities that included games, a visit from Sparkie the Fire Dog, face painting, water-balloon tosses, etc.

The “Miss-Sticks” meet for a 5th year

They come from Florida, Illinois, Kansas, North Dakota, Texas, Iowa, Minnesota, Morson and Bergland. But when they gather they are called the “Miss Sticks” - a group of summer visitors and locals who form a Red Hat group of summer visitors and locals who form a red hat group for the four months of summer. Meeting now for the fifth year, their goals are to enjoy each other, get to know the area, and most importantly, to have fun.

And living in an area with these truly wonderfully recreation opportunities makes ones ability to swim not only a tool for fully enjoying the water, but also a valuable life-protecting skill.
