OTTAWA -The National Aboriginal Health Organization (NAHO) today announced a new National Spokesperson for the National Aboriginal Role Model Program and 12 new national Aboriginal role models during an award ceremony at the Government Conference Centre in Ottawa.

Library to host Harry Potter book release party

You are cordially invited to a book release party in Rainy River at the historic depot on Friday July 20th from 10:00PM to midnight for the seventh and final book in the acclaimed Harry Potter series: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Party-goers are encouraged to dress in costume and bring their magic wands. The evening will be full of magic and entertainment including games, characters from the books, fortune-telling, treats, and a contest to win a copy of the new book.

Thursday afternoon Riverview School was thrilled to find out it had achieved the highest honour possible from the Ontario Active Schools Program.
Local Health Unit representative Heidi Ivall attended an end of year assembly at the school and announced that they had been recognized as a Super Active School.

Rose wins Hike and Bike Challenge

Last week the Healthy Communities Coalition announced the winner of their Summer Active contest. Kathy Rose of Rainy River won an adult sized mountain bike for her participation in the Hike and Bike Community Challenge.

Five grads honoured at McCrosson-Tovell School

About 100 people attended the grade 8 graduation of five McCrosson-Tovell students last Monday evening.
This year’s graduation was extra special because the school was hosting exchange students from Bedford, Quebec. All of them, their host families and the graduates and families were treated to a spaghetti dinner at the Bergland Recreation Hall.

Spa night at Shutterbug’s place

The Les Rouge Rogues have been very active since last March when we last reported in. On March 27th, we held a Spa Night at Countess Shutterbug’s, (Lou Ricci’s), complete with goodies and treats. It was a fun time of pampering and comedy. Lady Trillium, (Donna Moen) performed her Mary Kay magic on our hands while a red hat comedian lifted our spirits. Lady La Ti Da (Dawn Jarvis) did a delightful reading on how Not to wear your summer sandals! Door prizes were drawn and spa gifts given to each lady in attendence.
