It is one thing to complain about something but it is another to actually volunteer to do something about it.
In the Record’s weekly poll two weeks ago 62% of respondents said they would like to see both Canada Day and Railroad Daze events in Rainy River.

What a festive weekend.
Friday evening a big barbecue was held at Darlene Armstrong’s to commemorate her recent 65th birthday and her son Jim’s upcoming 40th birthday (July 16 for you calendar watchers).

It was a fairly uneventful gathering that almost did not happen when Rainy River Town Council had their regular monthly meeting Monday evening.
With Mayor Deb Ewald away for medical reasons and acting Mayor Gerry Marchuk at a meeting in Kenora Monday, all the rest of council had to be in attendance to have a quorum.

It is only two weeks until Railroad Daze Weekend, July 20-22, 2007, and planning is in full swing. There are many activities for people of all ages to enjoy, however, the Recreation Board needs full participation for the events to happen.

On Monday July 2, 2007, at the Rainy River Health Centre, Ivan Olson of Arbor Vitae passed away at the age of 87.
Ivan was the last remaining child of Olaf and Christina Olson. He was born August 26, 1919, in the same home he lived in all his life. He raised his family with his wife Anna on the family farm. He had many different jobs in his life, including trapping, farming, logging and most recognizable being his 18 years at the local Provincial Park. Ivan was very community orientated and his home was not only the hub of his family but also the community of Arbor Vitae. He welcomed everyone and always had time to visit.

BIRTH–Kenna Rae, daughter of Rod and Nikki Sinninghe of Rainy River, ON., was born Saturday, June 30, 2007 in Thunder Bay, ON. Kenna weighed 7 lb. 3 oz. and is 21 inches long. Kenna's big brother Ryder will be there to welcome her home.
