Invasive species triggers changes to bait regulations on US side of the border waters

In response to the spread of nonnative, invasive spiny waterflea to U.S. - Canada border waters, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has implemented new regulations on Rainy Lake, Namakan Lake, Rainy River and Lake of the Woods.

Willy Walleye 5K is just around the corner

Solvay Pharmaceuticals and the Triple A Booster Club invite you to take part in the annual Willie Walleye 5K Run/Walk to be held Saturday, June 2, at 9 a.m. Race headquarters is the ambulance garage behind The Ranch House restaurant, and the race will start and finish on 1st Street. Pie social/quilt show Apr. 21st

On, Saturday Apr. 21st, the Rainy River Canadian Legion will once again be bursting with spring colours as the Evangelical Covenant Church host their 2nd annual Spring Pie Social. Adorning the pretty tables will be a collection of flowered teapots & ivy, while enhancing the perimeter will be a variety of lovely quilts, runners and baby quilts, displayed by local craftswomen.

The Evening Grosbeak

Most people who feed birds in the winter in this area will be familiar with the Evening Grosbeak. It has a body about the size of a robin, but with a short tail and an enormous beak. The male birds are beautifully marked in yellow, black and white, while the females are more conservatively arrayed in dull brown with a wash of yellow. Both have black and white wings.

Rainy River to host Region 12 convention this Saturday

Twenty members came to our regular meeting along with Bob McGreevy and Dr. Singleton. First on the agenda was photographs taken of all the members present, one with Bob McGreevy accepting two cheques (1 for $10,000 completing our pledge to the CT Scanner, 2nd $2000 from the fund raising bingo’s held over the winter), the other with Dr. Singleton accepting $15,000 for the expansion to the Health Fitness Centre in the hospital.
